Technology
John Christopher Madole Associates (JCMA) employs pioneering and innovative technologies in the solid waste and renewable energy sector. There are a number of integrated technologies, either developed directly by JCMA or by proven Strategic Partners to meet the demands of specific demographics and situations.

Disposing of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) - Global communities need environmentally friendly facilities that are capable processing multiple waste streams. In response to these needs, JCMA has developed integrated processes to effectively address the problem of waste disposal on a large scale. In addition to "Renewable Energy, a number of high demand and valuable by-products are created. These unique operations can process from 100 to 1,000 tons per day of various waste types.

Pretreatment Processing / Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) - The MRF processes "Feedstocks" to make them "Process Ready-Materials." The MRF combines a number of screening / manual-mechanical sorting techniques to divide municipal solid waste into desired streams: recyclable material stream, reject stream and energy production stream.

Renewable Energy

• Anaerobic digestion (AD) has been in use for several decades to treat sewage sludge, animal wastes and industrial wastewater. Only in the past decade, has the technology become a recognized method for processing solid organic waste from residential and commercial MSW. There are over 2,000 commercial-scale digester facilities in Europe. AD is a proven process of taking biodegradable wastes to create renewable energy. The biodegradable organic matter is broken-down by bacteria into "Biogas", which consists of methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), and other trace gases. The biogas can be direct fired or refined into various forms of "Green Energy," such as, pipeline quality natural gas, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The post processing in AD also generates other valuable by-products, such as CO2 and fertilizers.

Gasification Process - JCMA employs a variety of simple, safe and efficient gasification and pyrolysis technologies that process the waste in a starved oxygen environment or entirely without oxygen. The system safely disposes of all waste, no matter how contaminated, by indirectly heating the feedstock chamber (while under vacuum) to +1,000° Fahrenheit. The resulting "Syn-Gas," which is comprised of hydrogen, methane, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide, are all excellent fuels that can be efficiently burned to produce thermal energy (hot water or steam) that can be used to produce electricity. This closed-loop process can meet the most demanding air quality regulations. Typically the residual ash is safe to discard in municipal waste or fill dirt. The residual ash is composed primarily of silica compounds (grit and sand) and common minerals (Al, Ca, Cu, Na, Mg, Fe, etc.), and is ideal as an additive to cement and fertilizers.

Source Separated Organic Composting Systems - JCMA has a proprietary technology for organic waste management, specializing in the processing and composting of source Separated Organics (SSO) materials. The JCMA system uses a combination of composting techniques to manage the material on the compost pad, both the static pile method and windrowing method. The static piles are constructed with a great deal of bulking agent, to create free air space to allow the free flow of oxygen through the pile. The static piles are blanketed with a layer of wood chips, acting as a protective cover and a natural bio-filter. Our proprietary process produces very little odor. Materials are maintained in static piles for a specified period, before being windrowed. Windrowing of the material will commence after piles are mature enough to avoid significant odor releases. Windrowing will continue for a specified period, before the final stage of curing and screening.

• Feedstocks - The following are just some the organic materials composted by JCMA:

   ⇒Plant Debris
   ⇒Biosolids (sewage sludge)
⇒Paper mill sludge, paper and pulp, wood shavings, sawdust
⇒Animal offal, bone and blood waste
   ⇒Residues from food processing
   ⇒Poultry waste (including feathers)
⇒Residues from beer, wine and alcohol manufacturing/processing
   ⇒Fish waste

• Material Marketing - Unlike the one-time revenue (tipping fee) generation potential of landfills and incinerators, the JCMA composting process generates a significant back-end economic benefit. This is done through the production and sale of high quality recyclable, nutrient-rich soil stabilizers and organic fertilizers. Agricultural and landscaping use with compost products made by JCMA, reduces the need for frequent watering and improve drought resistance in light, sandy soils as well as improve aeration and drainage in heavy, clay soils. JCMA compost products can also help hold precious topsoil in place, thus reducing erosion as well as allowing agricultural reclamation of marginal land. A variety of agricultural and landscaping compost-based fertilizer and soil stabilization products can be custom blended using the JCMA process, each reflecting market demand.

Greenhouse Integration (Anaerobic digestion (AD) & SSO Composting Systems) - A biofilter greenhouse can serve as a community conservatory or working business, providing fresh produce and/or plant products for community beautification projects. In addition to the potential business opportunities in the greenhouse, such operations are well suited for educational activities, since the interior is odorless and warm, making it a welcome environment, particularly in winter. From an operational perspective, it provides secondary and tertiary odor control and CO2 absorption.
